This tree is vigorous, very upright, well formed, and highly productive. Crops should be thinned to prevent limb breakage and maintain annual bearing. Shinko is much less susceptible to fireblight than most Asian pears, and it has also demonstrated resistance to pseudomonas. This one is a winner for no-spray cultivation. Like most Asian pears, Shinko is partially self-fertile, but better crops will be obtained when a pollenizer is present.\

The flesh is ivory-white, very juicy, crisp, and sweet, often described as having tangy citrus or butterscotch undertones.

  • Appearance: The fruit is round and medium-to-large with a brownish-green to golden-bronze, russeted skin.
  • Harvest Time: Generally ripens mid-August to mid-September, or into early October in colder climates.
  • Storage: Known for good storage life, lasting 3–4 months.
  • Usage: Ideal for eating fresh, in salads, or on platters, notes.
