Amur maple, also called Tatarian maple, can be grown either as a small, upright spreading tree with a dense, rounded crown or a large multi-stemmed shrub. It is easy to grow in moist, rich, well- drained soils in full sun to part shade and performs well in areas with cool summer climates. Amur maple makes an unusual specimen tree or shrub; its light green leaves turn yellow and red in the fall. This is a small tree which can reach a mature height and spread of 20 feet. Its name, 'Ruby Slippers' refers to its bright red samaras which appear in the spring. It can be grown in full or partial sun in evenly moist, well-drained soil.
