From mountainous southwest Turkey, the subspecies, Cedrus libani var. stenocoma displays better cold hardiness than other forms, making it useful for Northern climates. Like the species, the dark green conifer changes from a pyramidal form in youth to a flat-topped, picturesque tree with stiff, horizontal branches and a massive trunk in maturity. Attractive, broadly columnar, durable and unusual, it performs best in full sun.
