This lovely cultivar of Deschampsia cespitosa shares many attributes with the species: clump growing, semi evergreen, fine textured leaves, and thin stems topped with sprays of airy delicate flowers. However, Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Goldtau’ has a golden twist. It blooms in color. Seed heads emerge from dark green stems in an explosion of chartreuse-yellow, eventually changing to bronze. They remain handsome in winter landscapes and deliver a knock-out punch to cut-flower arrangements. When planted in masses or contrasted in gardens with sedges, ferns, or hostas, Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Goldtau’ adds dimension, texture, and a breezy quality. Deschampsia cespitosa performs best and flowers most in cooler climates.
