Autumn Joy is a popular upright variety of stonecrop, also known as a sedum. It is a hybrid plant created by crossing one species of sedum (Sedum telephium) with a species of ice plant (Hylotelephium spectabile). The resulting plant, usually referred to simply as Autumn Joy, may be sold under different taxonomical names, such as Sedum telphium, Sedum spectabile, or Sedum x. Although categorized for many years as sedum species, the Autumn Joy hybrid, along with several other hybrids, was recently reassigned to the Hylotelephium genus.
